Friendliest train crews I ever encountered !
Good Job. 👏🏼
Thank you! 😁
I sure can’t wait to see it when it’s complete!
We are so excited to see the progress they are making. It's gonna be awesome when it is up and running again!
@@friendsofctsrr For sure!
Could it be possible to restore the coaling tower and make it operational?
The coal tipple was last used in 2021 for a demonstration during the Iron Horse Roundup. It is not used for day to day operations. There are not currently any demonstrations scheduled.
Congratulations!
What happened in 2002 that sidelined her, exactly?
She had a broken side rod.
Absolutely beautiful 😍
The train winding through this area is always one of my favorite views! <3
So pretty!
It really is a pretty view, both the train and the landscape.
I think I am crazy enough to concitder rebuilding this branch, Santa Fe to Antonito and all.
It would be really cool to rebuild it all. If only we had an unlimited supply of money!
Love the video, BUT... WOW the mouth organ work deserves to be credited, GREAT sound track.. But by Who?
This was a piece of stock music through a paid service. It is great music though and we wish we had more information for you.
This is amazing to see. I've only seen one other piece of footage of the Chili Line. It was colour, but shakey and blurred. This is really good footage. (I actually have a spike from the Chili Line here in the UK. Someone sent it to me 🤫).
We were stoked to see this footage as well. The volunteer who digitized it let me know there is more footage that has not been digitized yet. I don't know if the footage is as good as this is though. We can't wait to see and share it.
@@friendsofctsrr Fantastic. What a gem! I look forward to that.
This was made by Railway Productions
Yes, it was. The original creator, Les Jarrett, has given us several great videos from the 1990s to use for educational purposes.
Great project... looking forward to seeing the progress!
Thank you! It has been so exciting watching the progress as they disassemble and work on Baggage Express 163.
Excellent job.
Excellent job
Needs a boxcar, with "Sons of The Pioneers" singing, and picking..
Wouldn't that be fun!
Of the many train vids I've viewed recently, this is the best "hand-held' coverage I have seen in a long time. From beginning to end, this well-planned Camera coverage was perfectly executed. Lessons can be learned here if others are willing to learn from this good work. Love the dramatic low-level camera angle! .
Thank you. I will pass this on to the videographer.
Absolutely love it all the steam engine of any variety had character and don't leave out the caboose! The trains of today have no character
They should’ve nailed those braces and screws. Don’t bend underload like nails do they’ll just break
That's ma dream job working for the railroad but A know it's just a dream n dreams don't come true often plus A live in Georgia about 90 miles from Savannah Georgia
We would love to have you join us. You don't have to volunteer to be a member. We also have several projects that are accepting remote volunteers if that is something you are interested in. Please let us know if you have any questions.
@friendsofctsrr A would love to right now am in the process of finding a job ma night maintenance team lead manager wrote me up 3 times one was for doing ma job n beyond n the other 2 was doing ma job apparently he didn't appreciate ma work so him n one of the night coach manager fired me right now A don't have any money coming in for gas for ma pick-up truck ta pay ma bills and for food hopefully one day A can do ma dream job
@friendsofctsrr is there any positions open that's hiring n what's the starting pay and where are y'all located A live in Blackshear Georgia am next door ta Waycross Georgia and about 90 some miles from Savannah Georgia
Great progress! Nice to see the railroad live on! Side note, is it true the railroad is planning on converting their locomotives to burn oil?
487 is currently undergoing oil conversion in Antonito. I saw her on my trip this summer and was said she’d be back sometime next year. Not sure if they’re going full oil like the D&S though.
The current plans for oil conversion only include 489 and 487. The C&TS Commission's website has some notes in the meeting minutes from 2023 about the oil conversions.
Thanks C.W. The song about this train rips!!!
Bravo! #483 looks amazing! I can’t wait to see her restore back on track! I can’t wait to see and hear #497 or #492 restored
My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂 they're one of his favorite things in the whole world 🌎. He hopes that real soon or sooner than soon that 497 will be restored to operation and the line between Chama and Durango will be rebuilt and used again and the line to Torrington and the Rio Grande Southern lines and hopes the line to Santa Fe is restored and the line between Alamosa and Antonito is either converted back to narrow gauge or a third rail is added so narrow gauge trains can run on it too. He believes if all that were to happen it would increase business for the Durango and Silverton and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroads and would give the passengers a change of scenery. But he doesn't want that to be wishful thinking he wants it to be a reality!
Such a phenomenal and historical DRGW operation. Glad to see these Christmas runs are returning! Also LOVE the Rizzoli D&RGW 5 Chime uptop the #487!
Great bunch. A great asset to the journey.
Thank you! We agree.
Nothing makes me happier than people enjoying their jobs lol
That's so true and our docents love it!
The best railroad in the United States, a must ride train.
It is such a great ride. Experiencing it in the snow gives you a whole different perspective.
Very happy that the Christmas trains are back!
We are so excited!!! Holiday train rides through the snow are a magical experience.
Great to see. Excellent work. I love me a reefer car 😊
Thank you! Reefers are quite interesting cars.
I just love ❤️ this railroad and love the people who work on the railroad too. Best railroad in the United States. Keep up the great work that will last forever. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🚂
Thank you so much. We love being a part of the railroad's preservation!
Lovely!
Thank you!
A terrific train ride with a ton of beautiful scenery and a good meal halfway. We’ve been on the C&T Scenic Railway twice so far!
We are so glad you enjoyed the C&TS. We love being able to help preserve the line for future generations.
Love this RR, looks just like it did in 1880. Durango can’t come close to that. Love the coal fired trains the best. I live in Denver, so I am 4 hours away from u guys. Thanks 🙏
Thank you for your support. We love being part of the preservation of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
Thanks guys what a wonderful job you did here. Love the RR.
Thank you! We are so thankful for all that our volunteers do.
Thanks I love everything Cumbres and Toltec does. Glad you’ll are having a great season. Best ride in the United States, most original RR.❤️❤️
Thanks! We love being able to help preserve the railroad and its history for the future.
#483 was saved with siblings.
She's getting steamed,
Nuh uh
The video says "there are no plans to restore 483 to service." 483 won't steam for a long time unfortunately.
Hey, at least they’ve decided to at least put 483 back into better looking shape. And nice to hear that they are going to restore 492. This means there will be three K-37’s in order operating. 491, 492, and 493.
Thanks for fixing web cams. 👍👍👍👍
We are glad you are enjoying them. We apologize for the long delay in getting them back online.
@@friendsofctsrr No, problem 👍👍
I wish that 484 the steam locomotive tender can stay as the cumbres and toltec.
They change the way they are painted periodically. It may say Cumbres & Toltec again someday.
@@friendsofctsrrhard to see, how was she painted here? As D&RGW?
Nice
Thanks! Our volunteers are skilled folks. We are so thankful for the time they give for our preservation work.
I sure wish your guys could get the webcams fixed in Chama, it’s been almost 2 months off line. Thanks 🙏
We apologize for the inconvenience. Our webcam team is working on them, but it is, unfortunately, taking longer than expected.
@@friendsofctsrr Thanks 🙏, I miss it.
@@stephensfarms7165, we do too. We will share it on our social media pages as soon as we get them up and running again.
Our webcams are back up and running as of today 8/7/23. Enjoy!
@@friendsofctsrr Oh, hallelujah thanks guys so much. I’ll be watching 👍👍👍👍
Any future plans for a return of 483 to operational condition
Right now there are no plans to return 483 to service.
Although sadly not coming back to service anytime soon, still glad to see the 483 back into cleaner shape rather than how she was near the Chama ships in the years previous.
Sounds like a grizzly bear sniffing right in your ear.
Would be nice to see 483 return to operation. Same w 492 or 497
492 is in the shop for restoration. I have not heard a timeline for completion, but we are so excited that she will be back out on the line in the future.
@@friendsofctsrr 492 also an oil burner or will she be coal. Heard 487 is being converted
@@nicholasmedovich6729, the last update I heard about 492 was that she would remain coal-fired.
@@friendsofctsrr but what about 497?
@@RalphTheMalaysianRailfan475patience please, pal. Of course I’d love for 497 to come back too, but it can be quite a lot money and effort to even bring just one engine back to service. Let’s just be grateful that there will be another loco operating again.
So you didn't forget about engine 483, that was the first K-36 that ran on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. and this railroad still have 5 K-36 steam Locomotives, they are number's 483, 484, 487, 488, and 489.
Bravo! That painting job was amazing!
Thank you. Our volunteers have been working so hard on this project. We are so grateful for all they do!
I have remember seeing 483. Back in July 2nd 2016 at Chama, New Mexico.
That's great. The Cosmetic Restoration Team has made a lot of progress since then. We hope you can come out and visit again soon.
@@friendsofctsrr Thanks.
Awesome job guys. I Miss watching the train pull out every morning. Please fix the web cams they been off line now for a month. Should not take a Month to fix. Appreciate any help to getting them back on line. Thanks for all you’ll do for the RR. 👍👍❤️‼️
We apologize for the inconvenience. We are working on the webcams and hope they will be back up soon. We will announce it on our Facebook and Instagram as soon as they are back online.
@@friendsofctsrr Thanks I don’t have those , Facebook, and instagram. Thanks for keeping the RR operational.👍👍🌟🌟
@@friendsofctsrr Is there anyway to get sound? From the cams? Thanks 🙏
Are they going back to chama or going to antonito
In this video, 463 heads back to Chama while 488 heads to Osier with the train. This video is from 2014, so I cannot say with for sure whether 488 went back to Chama or on to Antonito.
